Tunisia: launch of the twinning « Strengthening the national framework of animal health »
On December 13th took place the launching seminar of the twinning « Strengthening of the national system of animal health supervision », in Tunis, a project financed by the European Union and whose beneficiary is the General Directorate of Veterinary Services of Tunisia (DGSV).
This event brought together more than 90 people, in the presence of Emmanuelle Soubeyran and Chedia Seghaier, respectively heads of the French and Tunisian Veterinary Services, the ambassadors of the European Union, France and Italy, members of the consortium for this project, as well as representatives of partners involved in the project.
The objective of this twinning is double and complementary:
– To contribute to the preservation of human health, health and animal welfare according to the « One health » approach,
– And, thus, to contribute, thanks to a better sanitary control of the herds, to the promotion of the primary animal productions and to the development of the commercial exchanges with the European Union and internationally.
The exchanges between French, Italian and Tunisian partners will allow to share the good practices in use on both sides of the Mediterranean in the field of animal disease surveillance, animal welfare, certification of services, and many other topics related to animal health.
This twinning will last 36 months (01/09/2022 – 31/08/2025) and is financed by the European Union up to 1,5 M€. About thirty French and Italian experts will contribute to the achievement of results related to legislation and institutional organization, management and capacity building, and communication. These expert missions will strengthen the role of the Tunisian veterinary services and improve their efficiency, both for the benefit of farmers and their partners and operators in the value chain.
